There are times when it would be useful to restrict the search or search/replace functions to the current level or the current level and a specified number of sublevels. For example, I might want to make edits only to the entries I've put on the current level, or I might want to search only the current list and not waste time on any of its sub-entries. _________________ James B. I'll ask Marck, but I suspect you're the first to articulate this need.
That doesn't mean to say hundreds, or thousands of people haven't encountered the issue. If they had then either they were shy or they found a workaround.
The search 'walks the tree' which means it will go forward from where you are, going down each sub-list. But it doesn't allow you to restrict the number of sub levels.
And, of course, in the write and print functions, you can select entries containing certain text to a chosen depth as well. To a user, it must be a mystery why the two elements don't work the same way. The answer is that they were two separate developments. But that's only an excuse.
I'll ask Marck if he has any bright ideas. It's certainly one for the wibni (wouldn't it be nice if) file. _________________ David Tebbutt |

| You can restrict search and search-and-replace to a specific color. As a possible workaround, is there a way you could automatically change everything on a current level, and a given number of sublevels, to a particular color before using the search or replace functions? |
