Chinese failed to display correctly in new version

Postby honwahp » Mon Jan 07, 2008 10:04 am

When I changed to the new version of brainstorm and loaded a model, some of the Chinese characters failed to display correctly. They have changed to "blank squares". Also, the loading time of the model has increased significantly. ( I have put everything into a large model). This is quite disappointing and I have reverted to the old version in no time. ( I am quite satisfied with the former version anyway. )

Thank you for your note. I'm sorry about the Chinese characters. We're having a problem with Greek ones too.

This won't help with the characters but we've quietly uploaded a new version of the program that opens files at more or less the same speed as before.

The reason for the slowdown is that we were doing more file validation on Opening. An option (as yet undocumented, which is why we've not made an announcement) exists to open and verify a file. That runs slowly but you know that the file has been thoroughly checked.

We introduced this in case anyone tries to load a corrupted file.

Hello again. We have exchanged private emails. But I thought I'd better update this conversation.

Essentially, the language problem has arisen as a result of the switch to Rich Text Format with the latest BrainStorm release. This has brought benefits in its wake and, of course, we've introduced a lot of new features which can't be retrofitted to the old version.

Marck is busy on another project at the moment. But we have made investigation of the language issue his number one BrainStorm priority when he returns.

It seems mad, to us, that a move to a better text handling system has made matters worse.

We'll keep you posted on progress.
