Excessive Screen Refreshes

Postby Anonymous » Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:55 pm

I have been having this problem intermittently for quite some time. When I am working with Brainstorm, sometimes it inters a mode where the screen is refreshed every 4-5 seconds. It is quite irritating.

I am running Win2k with all the latest patches. I have an ATI Radeon 9550 video board with the latest ATI drivers. What else can I tell you that will help?

I'm passing this message to Marck. It's a mystery to me.

This all seems very odd. Which version of the software are you using? If I ever saw this happen it was a while ago and may have been cured by an update.

Are you using some kind of windows theming enhancement like WindowBlinds? That could cause the window to continually "Invalidate" (as the Windows API calls it) or invoke an externally triggered window resize and cause a redraw.

Other than external influences, I really don't know what would cause this.

I figured out the problem.

Explaining the problem in my posting got me to thinking along different lines. I discovered an unrelated app that was causing the refreshes. For some reason it mostly showed up with BrainStorm.

As the unforgetable Emily Litella used to say - "Oh, that's very different...", and then humbly say to the audience "Never Mind!"

This must be yet another success for BrainStorm in promoting a fresh approach to problems

Not living in the UK I am not embarassed to say that I had no idea who Emily Litella is, so here's saving those who are the trouble of searching.

Funny stuff from old "Saturday Night Live" US television. But you already know that thanks to Alex and Wikipedia, "Nevermind."

I still don't understand all this fuss every one is making about BarnStorming!!!

I wish you guys would just leave those poor little barns alone!

What was the app? I've noticed a similar occurrence.
